Who we are
This website and member portal are run by the Muslim Students' Society of Nigeria, LAUTECH Branch (“MSSN LAUTECH”, “we”). We are responsible for the personal data you share with us here, and we handle it in line with the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023.
What we collect
- Account details: full name, school email, matric number and password (stored only as a secure hash).
- Student details: faculty, department, level, gender and the area where you live.
- Activity in the portal: event registrations and tickets, CBT attempts and scores, dues and payment records.
- Hostel requests: your preferred area, room type, budget, move-in time, WhatsApp number and any notes you add.
- Basic technical data such as your browser type and pages visited, used to keep the site secure and working.
Why we use it
We rely on your consent and on our legitimate interest in running the society for its members. We never sell your data.
- To confirm you are a LAUTECH student and manage your membership.
- To run programmes: issue event tickets, deliver CBT tests and results, and record dues.
- To provide welfare support, such as matching you with a verified hostel.
- To contact you about the society's activities. You can ask us to stop non-essential messages at any time.
Data kept on your device
Your GPA planner courses and your choice to hide your CGPA are saved in your own browser, not on our servers. Clearing your browser data removes them. Signing in uses a cookie that keeps you logged in; we do not use advertising or tracking cookies.
How long we keep it
We keep your account while you are a member and for one session after you graduate or leave, then delete or anonymise it. Payment records are kept longer where needed for the society's accounts. Hostel requests are deleted one session after they are closed.
Your rights
- See the personal data we hold about you.
- Correct details that are wrong. Most can be changed on your Profile page.
- Ask us to delete your data or stop using it.
- Withdraw consent at any time, without affecting what we did before.
- Complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) if you think we have mishandled your data.
Keeping it safe
Passwords are hashed, connections are encrypted, and access to member records is limited to executives who need it. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a strong password and never share it. If we learn of a breach that affects you, we will tell you.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. The date at the top shows when it last changed, and we will announce significant changes to members.
